Main objectives of the course:

Understanding the basic principles of operating systems and using a command-line interface. Ability to install an operating system and its components, configure and manage its services with a graphical user interface, commands as well as scripts for the automation of administrative tasks.

Continuous assessment / evaluation:
The students take a test in the 8th week of the semester (max. 50 points, min. 30 points). At the end of the semester, the students hand in their semester projects (max 50 points, min. 30 points). It is necessary to obtain the minimal number of points for both the test and the semester project in order that the laboratory tutorials are passed successfully.

Final assessment /evaluation:
The exam consists of written and oral parts. In the written part, a test is given with the maximum of 100 points and its answers are explained in the oral part.

Marking:
A 93% – 100%
B 85% – 92%
C 77% – 84%
D 69% – 76%
E 61% – 68%
Fx less than 61%

To enroll for an exam student must have 60 points.

Understanding the basic principles of operating systems and using a command-line interface. Ability to install an operating system and its components, configure and manage its services with a graphical user interface, commands as well as scripts for the automation of administrative tasks.

1. Introduction to the architecture of modern operating systems, components of operating systems from the point of view of their management
2. Principles of operating systems from the administrator’s point of view
3. Administration of operating systems with a graphical user interface
4. Administration of operating systems with a command-line interface, editing configuration files
5. Automation of administration using scripting languages

Laboratory tutorials:
1. Operating system, its architecture and installation
2. File system of the operating system, orientation in it
3. Managing and configuring the services of the operating system with a graphical user interface
4. Command-line interface of a Windows-based operating system
5. Command-line interface of a Linux-based operating system
6. Administration of the operating system using some commands of its command-line interface
7. Creation of simple scripts for the automation of tasks in a Windows-based operating system
8. Creation of simple scripts for the automation of tasks in a Linux-based operating system
