KEGA – 051ŽU-4/2021 – Technologies of private cloud environments in higher education

We can say that there is another historical breakthrough, which will significantly affect the area of use and deployment of IT in private and public sector. This is characterized by an increase in the use of virtualization and its extensions, which include Cloud computing (CC). Many companies are now completely moving their own server infrastructure and its services to virtual or CC environments. It can be either virtualization within their own data centers or in the environment of public cloud providers. Administrators of such environments have to deal with many of the new challenges that these technologies bring. This is due to the fact that CC technologies combine many separated areas of the IT sector, such as programming or scripting, system or network administration and automation, security, etc. The increase in the use of CC technologies and virtualization is so significant that the demand for educated and certified professionals in this field dominates in the ranking of the most professions. For these reasons, graduates who master technologies are in demand on the market, and therefore it is highly desirable that universities respond to this demand by offering education. More than ever, a quality graduate in this field must master not only theoretical knowledge, but also have considerable practical experience, which cannot be gained other than on real technologies. Our department responds to this trend and offers university courses in the field of CC. The aim of the project is to enable further development and improvement of the current state of the offered courses by supporting the updating of current and building of other university courses focused on the given area. The second aspect is the support of development of the private Cloud environment built and operated by the department, used in the education and research.
