Course outcomes:
The student will acquire basic knowledge of embedded systems with emphasis on communication.
After completing the course the student:
- knows the basic communication interfaces used in embedded systems,
- knows the main features of real time operating systems,
- is able to implement a simple communication protocol in the selected embedded system.
Course scheme:
Lectures:
1. Introduction, definition of terms - embedded system and its core.
2. Transmission channel and its properties. Means of signaling.
3. Basic methods of bit encoding in serial data transmission.
4-8. Basic communication interfaces used in embedded systems, wired and wireless.
9. Data protection during transmission, detection and self-correction codes.
10. Network security, basics of cryptography utilized in networks.
11. Real-time, real-time operating systems.

Exercises (laboratory): 1 - 12. Real-time communication between microcontrollers. 13. Demonstration of the solutions.
