IT Academy – Teaching for 21st century

Strategic goal of the project:
Creating a model of education and training of young people for the current and future needs of the knowledge society and the labor market with a focus on informatics and ICT.

Objectives of Activity 1:
Innovation of science and technology education in primary and secondary schools with a focus on informatics and ICT, orientation of young people to further study in fields of study and programs with the perspective of employment in the IT sector.
The innovation of education within the School educational programs will be focused on updating the content, methods and forms of teaching mathematics, informatics, science and vocational subjects towards the consistent and meaningful implementation of ICT tools in education. The created innovative methodologies will be focused primarily on the development of research competencies of primary and secondary school students. A model of a special class will be created with a focus on informatics, especially in grammar schools, and it will include the creation of textbooks of eight new subjects for these classes. Two new motivational subjects Informatics in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Internet of Things will be created for the orientation of high school students to university studies in informatics study programs and for employment in the IT sector. The activity includes formal and informal teacher education, circles, IT camps, seminars, competitions and other extracurricular activities aimed at motivating primary and secondary school students to study informatics, ICT, natural and technical sciences, digital literacy development, personal development and communication competencies. The activity will be implemented in close cooperation with IT companies on the basis of partnership with schools.

Objectives of Activity 2:
Innovation of study programs and subjects at universities in four current and modern areas of specialization – Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), computer networks and business information systems, taking into account the needs of practice in the IT sector while respecting qualifications standards according to the National Qualifications Framework.

The established competence center at partner universities will provide education in the field of IT skills, serve as a source of innovations for the educational process in Slovakia in the field of IT and coordinate the content and methods of education with the private IT sector. The exchange of knowledge and experience between universities and experts from companies will take place in the form of joint workshops in the form of seminars. Based on these activities, the content of innovated subjects will be prepared. The content of the educational program “IT for practice” for non-informatics will be prepared, which will prepare graduates of non-informatics fields for their employment in the IT sector and ECDL education system.
