This thesis focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation of a shared network filesystem in a cloud environment at the Department of Information Networks. Thetheoretical part begins by explaining the concept of a shared network file system, itsprinciples, and the advantages that its implementation brings. The thesis then continueswith an analysis of available backend technologies, evaluating selected characteristicsbased on the current needs of the Department of Information Networks’ cloud. Based onthe conducted analysis, a solution is chosen that provides the foundation for theimplementation of the shared network file system. The next section of the thesis isdedicated to the Manila module, which represents the method of implementing such asystem into the OpenStack platform used as the department’s cloud solution. Thischapter contains general information about the service and its key components, formingthe basis for understanding its operation. Since the implementation of the shared networkfile system in the cloud at the Department of Information Networks emphasizesautomation, the following chapter focuses on deploying this service through theorchestration tool Juju, which is used by administrators for these needs. The nextpractical section documents the entire deployment process, from creating containers, defining relationships between individual applications, to configuring the Manila moduleand the access layer provided by the NFS Ganesha server. The final chapter documentsthe testing of the entire implemented solution on a practical scenario, which confirms thefunctionality of the created solution. The thesis also includes an administrator’s guideproviding additional information about the implementation and management of theimplemented system.
